The greatest challenge before the scientific community is to have technology with minimal carbon and water footprint. Drip irrigation is a water saving technique, and small gravity drip irrigation setup can cater to the need of backyard/courtyard vegetable growing system. The task of operating the system with clean energy in an environment and health-friendly manner was undertaken, and a pedal-operated rotary mode water pumping system linked with drip irrigation was developed and tested at different delivery and suction lifts from 0.65 to 2.25 m and 1 to 3.85 m, respectively. Surface water collected through filters was lifted to an overhead tank, and gravity drip system of irrigation was operated for kitchen garden. Under this system, the concept of water harvesting, exercise, health-friendly utilization of human power and operating gravity drip system of irrigation was brought under one umbrella. Under 1 m constant suction lift with associated varying delivery head from 0.65 m to 2.25 m, the discharge was found to vary from 0.67 to 0.5 lps. Similarly, under constant delivery head (0.65 m) with associated suction lift of 1 m–3.85 m, the discharge varies from 0.67 to 0.62 lps.
