Trauma to the lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct (NLD) occurs as a result of mechanical injury and is often associated with facial trauma in 7–15% of cases. This involves lacerations of the lacrimal sac and nasoethmoid fractures [1–3]. Le Fort II and Le Fort III-type fractures are associated with the lacrimal sac and NLD injuries. This results from high-impact blunt trauma, and the most common mode of injury is road traffic accident [1, 2, 4]. Bony fractures initiate an inflammatory and cicatrizing reaction that may result in nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO) immediately or many years after the injury [5].
