This research paper discusses the several goals and objectives to transform India into a high-quality, industry-oriented, comprehensive, and world education hub. This paper is attentive on recognising the structural problems in Indian higher education system and action to be implemented for advancement towards Indian higher education’s goals by 2047. The paper mentioned five strategic pillars: (i) constructing a student specific and reasonable ecosystem, (ii) improving research and development in higher education institutes (HEIs), (iii) empowering faculty across the HEI system, (iv) evolving global mobility, and (v) investing in online learning. To accomplish India @2047 targets, strategic 5-year plans are delineated, under supervision of the industry, higher education institutes, and policy maker to enhance the higher education landscape over the next 25 years. Based on the 5-year plans, this research paper has outlined the critical short-term areas of focus for Indian higher education in the form of 4 themes. These themes are (i) superior education, (ii) industry orientation, (iii) research and development, and (iv) inclusivity and equity. This paper identifies the challenges faced by HEIs and opportunities to depend on in coming years and proposes the strategies to overcome the challenges and provides recommendations on achieving global standards of higher education excellence.
