Beneficiation of Coking Coal Fines Lying in the Waste Settling Ponds of Washeries to Reduce Environmental Pollution
摘要
The coking coals of India are being washed at various coal washeries for improvement in quality to meet the specifications of the metallurgical industries. During the process of washing, coal fines of size below 0.5 mm are generated and are presently being bled to the nearby impoundments. Huge quantities of coking coal fines are piled up at different washeries, thereby creating a lot of environmental pollution. These coking coal fines are vitrinite-enriched coking material, which may be utilized as a suitable coking blend if beneficiated judiciously. Beneficiation of this coal slurry is assuming increasing importance in India. A better-integrated option for reducing pollution is to search for an optimum combination of different physicochemical and gravity processes for beneficiation of the coal slurries for value addition as well as environmental protection. The beneficiation of these waste settling pond coal fines can recover the finest cleans (ash < 15%) which if used suitably can improve the coking property of the coke-oven blend for coke making.
