A Sustainability Study on Parts Produced from Green Manufacturing Aspects by Fused Deposition Modeling—A Review
摘要
In the present situation, world is environmentally affected by various types of pollutions. Deposition of waste materials and emission of CO2 into the atmosphere are some of the main reasons. However, while manufacturing new materials and components, major amount of CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere during extraction of raw materials from the ores, processing stage to final stage in the product life cycle. Apart from this, incineration and landfills are rapidly increasing due to end-of-life components and waste materials. If this situation is not handled properly, future generations may face severe problems from the atmospheric point of view and scarcity or exploitation of natural resources. This can be prevented by adopting and combining sustainable manufacturing concepts with additive manufacturing. Sustainable manufacturing (SM) is well known as a process of using resources efficiently without compromising the needs of future generations. The three major concerns of SM are environment, society and economy. In order to achieve sustainability, green manufacturing aspects like reduce, reuse and recycle concepts are combined with additive manufacturing. Producing a solid three-dimensional component by adding layer upon layer from the input CAD file data is termed as additive manufacturing. It has the capability to improve geometries and generate lightweight parts and take in less material and energy. In this paper, review has been conducted on the studies of sustainability of parts produced from additive manufacturing by fused deposition modeling. The authors had put their full efforts in bringing up research related to 3R’s (reduce, reuse and recycle) concepts dealing with environment, society and economy through fused deposition modeling process.
