The information resources construction is not only part of the basic work of libraries and information agencies but also one of the research fields which has received much attention and gained new momentum over time in library and information science. Over the past years, the terms of information resources development object in the library and information community in China have been “collection of books,” “library conservation,” “document resources,” “document information resources,” “information resources,” etc. Accordingly, the concept of information resource development in China has also experienced from the book collection (collection supplement) to literature resource construction, and then to the evolution process of the information resource construction. The researchers of library and information science in our country have conducted in-depth and systematic research on the theory and practice of information resource construction and achieved a lot of achievements. Hereby, according to the three stages of the development of information resources in the past 40 years, namely, the development of collection of books, the development of literature resources, and the information resource construction, we’d like to elaborate on the important research contents of these three stages.
