Over the last 40 years, the History of Sociology and Historical Sociology have emerged as relatively new fields of research. They both appeared during the 1990s when the country was normalizing disciplines in higher education. Both had a shared destiny. Academics in these fields gained inspiration from the overseas social sciences, and they have subsequently produced a lot of creative research, especially since the turn of the millennium. The History of Sociology and Historical Sociology both study people, events, and thoughts in history. They look at Western studies and Chinese theories, and address real problems. The History of Sociology draws on the infinite theories and concepts in Historical Sociology, and Historical Sociology looks to the History of Sociology for information on historical remains and precursory concepts. Chinese Sociology needs to re-examine its own traditions and conduct more practical research, but both of these fields address substantive issues, and they have a close affinity with one another.
