Social Policy is a comprehensive discipline. It is directly and closely linked to Sociology, as is Social Work. However, the applications of these two disciplines differ somewhat from Sociology. Social Policy and Social Work are known as “applied social sciences” because they stress the importance of combining theoretical work with practical studies. Government work is linked to these disciplines, as officials formulate/implement policies and provide people with services. Since the reform and opening-up era, there has been considerable academic work on Social Policy and Social Work in China.
