Determining Factors Influencing Nutritional Status in Malnourished Toddlers: A Backward Elimination Binary Logistic Regression Study

Malnutrition is a significant public health issue that requires urgent attention and intervention, particularly when its prevalence in an area exceeds or equals 20%. In 2018, the prevalence rate of malnourished toddlers in North Maluku was 22.2%. This research focuses on analyzing and interpreting a model that identifies the key factors influencing the nutritional status of children under the age of five. The backward elimination binary logistic regression method is employed for this analysis. The study includes data from 100 toddlers, consisting of 71 well-nourished and 29 malnourished toddlers, and six predictor variables. Through research conducted at one of the XYZ Health Centers in North Maluku from 2021 to 2022, it has been determined that age, weight, and MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration) are significant factors affecting the nutritional status of anemic toddlers. The model, incorporating these three significant variables, achieves a classification accuracy of 84.21%.
