Embodied energy refers to the total energy consumed by all of the processes associated with the production of a building material, from the mining and processing of natural resources to manufacturing, transport, and product delivery. In the context of cement and concrete, which are cornerstone materials in the construction industry, embodied energy is a significant component due to the energy-intensive nature of cement production and the large scale of concrete use worldwide. Assessing the embodied energy helps in understanding the environmental impact of these materials, guiding efforts toward more sustainable construction practices.
