Embodied Carbon

Embodied carbon refers to the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions associated with the production, transportation, installation, maintenance, and disposal of building materials, from cradle to grave. For cement and concrete, which are among the most widely used construction materials globally, the embodied carbon primarily stems from the energy-intensive processes involved in the manufacture of cement, particularly the calcination of limestone and the energy used during the manufacturing process. Reducing embodied carbon in the concrete industry is crucial for meeting global sustainability targets and mitigating climate change, given the vast scale of its production and use.
