Chemically bonded ceramics (CBCs) are advanced materials engineered through the chemical reactions of ceramic powders with chemical binders, resulting in a solid matrix. Unlike traditional ceramics, which require high-temperature firing to achieve their properties, CBCs form at ambient or slightly elevated temperatures. These materials are primarily composed of reactive alumina or phosphate-based binders that react with metallic oxides to form a durable, hardened structure. This low-temperature setting process confers distinct advantages in terms of energy efficiency and environmental impact.
