An artery aneurysm is a localized or diffuse dilation or swelling of the arterial wall due to pathological changes, which can occur anywhere in the arterial system. Pulsatile masses are the main symptom. Hepatic artery aneurysms and splenic artery aneurysms are known as visceral artery aneurysms. HAA is classified into extrahepatic and intrahepatic types according to its location. Approximately 80% of HAA cases are extrahepatic. Regarding nature, aneurysms in the arterial system can be divided into true aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms. Aneurysms of the true hepatic artery are most caused by atherosclerosis. Pseudoaneurysms are mostly caused by injuries. Diagnostic imaging methods for HAA include X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, magnetic resonance imaging, angiography, and interventional catheterization. The lumen of a hepatic artery aneurysm is shown to be dilated in localized areas by an angiography. A scan of the focus enhancement reveals the same level of enhancement as the blood vessels at its edge, including crescent-shaped thrombi. Contrast medium extravasation may be observed surrounding the area during rupture and bleeding.
