Fate or Accident? A Story of Being in the Right Place, at the Right Time
摘要
Dr. Vinnitta Mosby outlines a compelling story of how success can occur when critical elements are aligned. Dr. Mosby’s doctoral success led to an unanticipated role as an early career academic working in the university where her doctorate was completed. Concerns about climate change and its effects on Torres Strait Islander peoples was the driving force behind her doctoral work, rather than the desire to become an academic. Doctoral success came from hard work plus a combination of excellent honours results, a strong supervision team, who worked well together and an unexpected encounter with a visiting international Indigenous scholar who bolstered both confidence and knowledge. Dr. Mosby also reminds us of the value of the financial freedom a scholarship enables and how nurturing family support can be on such a long academic journey.
