Correlation Among Learners’ Economic Ability, Attitude Toward ICT, and Reading Performance: An Exploration Among Twenty-First Century Teacher Aspirants
摘要
Information and communication technology (ICT) witnessed the prevalence of digital-based reading materials. The fast-paced shift from paper-based learning to technology-based learning paved its way to education embracing ICT in any aspect. Due to the urgent necessity of utilizing ICT in education, several studies have explored learners’ and teachers’ attitudes toward ICT. However, there is a scarcity of research that mainly focuses on learners and features one of the primary skills in gaining knowledge: reading skills. This study aims to determine the correlation among learners’ economic ability, attitude toward ICT, and reading performance. This quantitative study identified 90 aspiring teachers from the College of Teacher Education at Western Mindanao State University with prior experience with online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic who are now slowly adapting to the new normal system of education. Finally, the results of the study reveal that there is a correlation among learners’ economic ability, attitude toward ICT, and reading performance. This signifies that if respondents have access to the actual technology, it will have a direct impact on their attitude toward ICT and will help them improve their reading performance. It should be noted that the findings constructed in this investigation are essential to serve as a hint that learners in today’s generation work better with technology.
