The following Facebook's official rebranding to Meta in October 2021, the metaverse has taken center stage as the de facto norm for virtual 3D environments and online social platforms. The metaverse aspires to deliver fascinating 3D and customized experiences to consumers by utilizing a number of practical technologies. Users’ digital data and material security in the metaverse is an understandable concern, despite the many benefits and the general interest in the subject. Blockchain technology offers a potential answer due to its decentralization, transparency, and immutability. We hope that by providing a comprehensive overview of blockchain applications for the metaverse, we will help you better understand blockchain's role in this space. We start by outlining the basics of blockchain technology, the metaverse, and why it might be useful for the metaverse. Subsequently, we delve deeply into the technical elements of metaverse solutions based on blockchain, covering topics such as privacy protection, storage, data collection, interoperability, and sharing. We first describe the metaverse's technical challenges from each perspective, and then we show how blockchain may support.
