This chapter examines the state of the art of the development of deferred payment services in a region known by its unique cultural and demographic characteristics. Despite their development in several regions, the chapter shows that the payment services known as “Buy now pay later” are proving an exemplary success in the GCC region and represent a benchmark to be followed on the basis of an ecosystem that has been able to combine cultural and consumer contexts with financial innovations, while keeping a vigilant watch on the need to adapt the regulatory framework. The experience of the GCC region also recognizes and values the multiplying socio-economic effect of FinTech services and places them perfectly in the context of its efforts to achieve sustainable development objectives.
