Transformation represents an ubiquitous moment of cultural reality in the age of the so-called Great Acceleration. Cultural transformations thereby appear to be both an opportunity of opening livable futures and a challenge which has to be mastered. Against this background, cultural transformation can be understood as a topic of cultural education in two ways: On the one hand, with regard to questions of education in terms of coping with transformation effects and challenges, which can be understood as education for cultural resilience; on the other hand in relation to questions of education aiming at cultural transformation, which can be understood as education for cultural sustainability resp. sustainable cultural practice. In the present text, education for cultural resilience and education for sustainable cultural practice are conceptualized in a theoretical-systematic way as processes of collective re-constellations of cultural forms and practices, through which a transgression of established cultural patterns becomes possible, so that future-opening horizons of cultural realities can be generated within the given historical-cultural entanglements in which actors are located. How such an initiation of alternative cultural forms of practice as well as a critical positioning towards cultural forms that narrow the future can look like is shown by analyzing a television documentary series.
