摘要

Climate variability leads to unpredictable periods of maximum rainfall or the local maximum temperature in a hilly area. This sudden change, sometimes, causes very catastrophic natural hazards such as landslides and flash floods, and consequently, the socio-economic life of the population living in mountainous areas is highly affected. The rainfall-triggered landslides mostly block the highways and roads, which leads to pity for tourists. These landslides are of different forms like rockfall, slides, and sometimes debris flow. In the Almora-Nainital regions, the rockfall is a very dominating type of landslide. Many methods are available to solve and check the instability conditions of rock slopes. In the present study, the Numerical method was considered for the analysis. A field investigation has been carried out to identify the landslide-vulnerable road cut slopes in the study area. Laboratory work was carried out to ascertain the features of rock strength. Every input parameter gathered from the field and lab investigations has been used in numerical simulation. The numerical analysis has been performed using the Finite Difference Method (FDM) for vulnerable road cut slopes along National Highway (NH)-109 in Uttarakhand, India. Before performing the numerical simulation, intact rock properties have been used to estimate the rock mass properties. The Factor of Safety (FoS) has been computed for analyzing the health of the road cut slopes. The FoS was calculated based on shear strength reduction technique.
