There have been many studies on the elastic–plastic problems of circular tunnels in the past, especially for axisymmetric problems, which have been extensively researched. For the non-axisymmetric problems with non-hydrostatic stresses, the author discussed the distribution of the plastic zone around the circular tunnel using analytical methods.
