In recent years, emerging biomedical materials have shown an important role in disease screening, diagnosis, and treatment, among which fluorescent molecular imaging technology makes rapid development, which contributes to the accurate diagnosis and rational treatment of diseases. In particular, considering the liver as the center of human biochemical metabolism, it has been found that fluorescent biomedical materials can provide a functional part in the metabolic regulation of various diseases of the hepatobiliary system and therefore may provide new diagnostic and therapeutic methods for these diseases. Among them, aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) are widely used in basic and clinical studies of diseases of the hepatobiliary system due to their favorable biocompatibility, structural versatility, easiness of modification, and excellent fluorescence imaging efficacy. This part of the content focuses on the recent advances of AIEgens in the hepatobiliary diseases, summarizes their applications in the directions of bio-imaging and disease diagnosis and treatment, and finally discusses the opportunities and challenges of the AIEgens in the basic research and clinical application research of the hepatobiliary system.
