Visual Research Methodologies and Vulnerable People
摘要
Visual methodologies encompass a variety of approaches used to understand and interpret visual representations. These methodologies have become vital tools for exploring complex topics that are difficult to articulate through words alone. By utilizing qualitative visual data, participants can share their stories in greater depth than verbal methods. Researchers have increasingly adopted visual methods, particularly when working with marginalized groups. This chapter discusses the use of visual methods including photo-elicitation, photovoice, and drawing methods. The chapter also presents the use of visual methods in research involving vulnerable or marginalized individuals. It also examines both the benefits and challenges of employing visual methods. Despite some challenges, integrating visual data within vulnerable communities offers valuable opportunities to gain deeper insights into phenomena and lived experiences of marginalized people.
