It contextualizes health promotion in occupational therapy practice historically and philosophically. Theoretical frameworks supporting occupational therapy health promotion practice are discussed including occupational balance, occupational justice, occupation-focused practice models, and health behavior change theories. An overview is provided of the intervention planning process, including considerations such as health literacy, processes and tools for evaluation, and discussion of different intervention types. The chapter concludes with suggestions for education preparing occupational therapy students for health promotion practice. Examples used throughout the chapter are drawn from published research and represent a range of countries, population groups, and challenges to health and well-being.

摘要

Occupational therapists, since the earliest days of the profession, have used their understanding of the relationship between people, the occupations in which they engage, and their health and well-being to promote health and prevent illness and disability. This chapter provides an overview of health promotion in occupational therapy for occupational therapists and those outside of the profession.
