Social Media in Dental Education
摘要
This chapter begins by exploring the diverse definitions of social media, followed by a discussion about the widespread adoption among students, educators, and dental professionals, with platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. It then discusses the various ways in which social media is utilized as a teaching and learning tool, as well as its role in assessment aspects. Additionally, the chapter explores the potential benefits of integrating social media into dental education, including enhancing student engagement, promoting active learning, fostering collaboration among peers, and expanding access to educational resources. Alongside these benefits, however, the chapter also addresses the challenges and considerations associated with the use of social media in dental education as well as in research. These include concerns related to privacy and confidentiality, the validity of online content, the need for appropriate training and guidance on responsible social media use, and the potential for unethical behavior in online environments.
