Approximately 60–80 million people worldwide are confined to wheelchairs. Although several devices including ramblers have been developed over the time to help these people in walking, these suffer from disadvantages such as high cost and limited availability, and, above all, most are not user-friendly. We, at Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Center for Innovation and Bio-Design, PGIMER, Chandigarh, have developed a cheap, user-friendly medical rambler to assist patients with gait problems and paraplegia during walking, which is being presented in this chapter.

摘要

Approximately 60–80 million people worldwide are confined to wheelchairs. Although several devices including ramblers have been developed over the time to help these people in walking, these suffer from disadvantages such as high cost and limited availability, and, above all, most are not user-friendly. We, at Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Center for Innovation and Bio-Design, PGIMER, Chandigarh, have developed a cheap, user-friendly medical rambler to assist patients with gait problems and paraplegia during walking, which is being presented in this chapter.
