Regular visits to hospitals are costly, especially in rural areas, due to the expenses related to transport. In addition, the lack of adequate facilities for transport results in a lot of time being wasted on transportation and the resultant loss of earning hours. Further, hospital visits may not be possible during periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic. All these issues can be addressed by telemedicine, which decreases the need for hospital visits. Telemedicine, in addition to saving time, also saves money for both the patient and the medical practitioner. In this chapter, we analyze the impact of telemedicine on the needs of people and identify factors which are likely to influence its growth.
