An Analysis on Adaptability in Catholic Church Architecture of the Da Lat Diocese

The Da Lat Diocese in Lam Dong province includes two cities and ten districts. The architecture of the Catholic church in the diocese is diverse and has many tangible and intangible values. This study aims to analyze and identify the adaptation to climatic conditions, landscape, and local culture preserved in the architecture of Catholic churches in the Da Lat Diocese. First, based on the results of the primary data analysis, the research team selected typical churches. Next, ten churches were selected as typical buildings to conduct a field survey. Next, a framework for analyzing and assessing adaptability is proposed. Since then, the adaptability to climate conditions, landscape, and local culture in the architecture of the ten selected Catholic churches has been quantitatively analyzed using an evaluation framework. Finally, the adaptability in the architecture of the selected buildings was identified. This result is the basis for proposing a strategy to preserve and promote the architectural heritage values of Catholic churches in the Da Lat Diocese.
