Various methods are available for designing members in steel structures, including computer programs, calculation tables, or manual calculations using calculators for simple structures. These methods adhere to specific design standards that provide guidelines for calculating the allowable strength of the members. The design standards incorporate different formulas and calculation procedures corresponding to the type of applied force on the member and the specific steel cross-section utilized. This paper introduces an alternative approach to steel structure design by introducing design charts specifically for the design of compressive members. The design chart is intended to design steel columns according to the design standards of the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT-011038). The steel sections used in this research are H-shaped, commonly used, and available in Thailand. The paper results consist of graphs showing the correlation between the nominal compressive strength and the effective member length for various cross-section sizes. Indeed, using these design charts to design column members can help the designer select the optimum steel sections. This paper provides a practical example to showcase the efficiency and simplicity of designing a column member.
