The Dual Presence of Very Large Structures in the Post-Transition State of Two-Dimensional Channel Flow
摘要
Two types of large-scale structures are known to exist in turbulent channel flow, with different spanwise scales that alternate for a certain Reynolds number. The aim of this study is to determine the Reynolds number at which the two types of large-scale structures alternate by means of a two-point velocity correlation experiment in the spanwise direction using a hot-wire anemometer and to investigate these structures by means of visualisation experiments. It was found that as the Reynolds number increased, the dominant structures switched from wide to narrow structures around 3500. In the flow visualisation, it was observed that the wide large-scale structures are clustered together with long streak structures.
