Recently, the smart contact lenses attract a lot of interests, especially, the contact lens display which can be used for an AR visual interface device. Recently, the contact lens display using the holographic image generation technique has been proposed. In this paper, the developments of the holographic contact lens display are explained. The comparisons of the image generation techniques for the contact lens display are also provided. The R&D project of the holographic contact lens display in Japan is explained.
