In the Big Data era, we are surrounded by digital products and digital technology. The necessity for large-capacity storage equipment has increased. Holography data storage has been good candidate for a green data storage system, because of there are not only large storage capacities and high transfer rates, but also long life-time and low cost with the unique configuration. In this paper, we introduced the principle of the Holographic data storage system and its media structure. Some results of experimental and theoretical studies suggest that it is a very effective method. We also discussed some methods to increase the recording density and data transfer rates using phase and polarization modulations.
