Research Methodology and Approach
摘要
This chapter presents the methodological framework employed in the study, which is situated within the philosophical paradigm of pragmatism. This chapter also offers a detailed account of the methodological processes, including the development of the survey instrument and measurement scales, the operationalization of key variables, sampling strategies, and procedures for data collection and analysis. Using the concurrent parallel mixed-methods design, the research integrates both quantitative and qualitative approaches to provide a comprehensive understanding of the deskilling experiences of skilled immigrants in the Canadian labour market. Primary data were collected through a cross-sectional survey and three focus group discussions. The mixed-methods approach allows for the simultaneous gathering of numerical trends and in-depth personal narratives. The integration of quantitative and qualitative data enhances the study’s capacity to produce actionable insights, contributing to the development of more inclusive and effective labour market policies. This methodological synergy reflects the pragmatic commitment to utility, ensuring the findings are not only academically rigorous but also relevant to policy and practice. This chapter concludes by setting the stage for the following chapter, which presents the study’s findings and connects them to theoretical frameworks and policy implications aimed at fostering equitable labour market outcomes for skilled immigrants in Canada.
