Construction of Signature Bridge Between Okha and Beyt Dwarka in Gujarat State: A Case Study

A Signature bridge, known as the Sudarshan Setu, is a cable-stayed bridge with a length of 900 m comprising central span of 500 m and side spans of 200 m each including approach spans that has been constructed connecting Okha on the main land and Beyt Dwarka island in the state of Gujarat. The overall length of the bridge is 2320 m including approaches. The pylon height is 130 m and each pylon leg is supported on pile foundation. The deck width is 27.2 m which includes divided carriageways of 9.5 m width each and 2.5 m wide covered footpath on each side. Constructing this bridge over a sea creek posed several challenges. This paper describes the salient features of the cable-stayed bridge. construction methodology adopted and the challenges faced.
