Induction motor is an efficient industrial workhorse in the power system. If abnormalities occurring in the motor are not catered on urgent basis, power quality will be hampered. This paper aspires to detect single-phasing condition in induction motor, using Fourier transform (FT) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT). Here, the signal harmonic content has been analyzed to come to a definite conclusion. The pictographic nature of the FT and CWT coefficients has been assessed and an algorithm has been developed for effective single-phasing analysis in induction motors. Later, a scheme has been proposed for the fast identification of the case concerned. Also, thermal impact of the motor has been judged.
