Dhaka metro rail is the first Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system in Bangladesh. MRT Line-6 is the only currently operated line. This study analyzes data collected through interviews conducted around Metro Rail stations, focusing on socio-demographic characteristics, travel patterns, and perceptions of the system. The results indicate that Metro Rail is predominantly used for work and educational purposes, with users perceiving it positively in terms of safety, accessibility, and convenience, albeit with concerns about cleanliness. The introduction of the Metro Rail has led to shorter travel times, improved traffic conditions, and increased accessibility to areas along its route. Respondents provided feedback on system improvement, including enhancements to the ticketing system and addressing overcrowding during peak hours. This study emphasizes the need for continuous efforts to improve the quality of service and suggests avenues for future research to explore additional factors that influence perceptions. Overall, the study underscores the significant role of Metro Rail in addressing Dhaka’s transportation challenges and highlights opportunities for further enhancement to benefit commuters and the city as a whole.
