Intercropping soybean with maize can be a more effective method of utilizing sunlight than growing them individually. The system of intercropping soybean with maize can enhance soil microbial communities by improving soil fertility and nutrient availability due to the light harvesting efficiency compared to sole soybean planting. Studying how soybeans react to various light environments can aid in optimizing agricultural practices for increased yields. This chapter highlights several important key points related to light interception in soybean and maize intercropping system. The effect of the interaction between light intensity and the rhizosphere of soybean under its intercropping system with maize was revised. Furthermore, the effect of the height of soybean plants and spacing between maize plants on light interception and consequently on productivity was also deliberated. The effect of different planting arrangements of soybean and maize under its intercropping system on light use efficiency and relative photosynthetic potential was also reviewed.
