This chapter explores the role of participatory methodologies in advancing just and sustainable environmental conservation. Drawing from the concept of the commons, it positions co-design and facilitation as vital tools for returning agency to communities historically excluded from decision-making. Through the Design for Conservation (D4C) methodology, it outlines practical strategies for inclusive, culturally competent, and decentralized engagement. Emphasizing the need to hold safer spaces for dialogue and co-creation, it also frames nature as an active stakeholder. The chapter calls for embodied, place-based practice rooted in reciprocity, adaptability, and the wisdom ecological systems.
