There is a dearth of research-based literature on the values of the NSW Police Force and their depiction by the mainstream media (MSM), especially in relation to the external pressures on the force. Further, many published news articles take an anti-police stance conforming to popular narratives about police brutality and corruption. The need for this book was inspired by a perceived gap in the literature addressing the challenges to contemporary policing, not just in New South Wales but Australia and other nations with similar liberal democracies.
