Empowering Communication: An IoT-based Smart Glove for Gesture Recognition and Voice Translation to Assist Speech-Impaired Individuals
摘要
Speech impairment greatly restricts communication skills, leading to social isolation and interpreter dependency. In response to this limitation, we developed an IoT-enabled smart glove to translate sign language movement into audible speech for smooth interaction by speech-impaired individuals. The glove will have flex sensors and an Arduino controller for precise detection of hand movement and translating it into voice through a built-in speaker. Wireless connectivity allows for real-time transmission of data and voice playback and facilitates portability and user friendliness. The device has undergone stringent testing in various conditions to ensure gesture recognition accuracy and efficacy. Experimental data show a high recognition accuracy, which surpasses current methods in terms of responsiveness and reliability. The smart glove can revolutionize the lives of speech-impaired individuals by maximizing communication and encouraging social integration.
