The recent invention of MXenes, a class of two-dimensional materials composed of transition-metal carbides and nitrides, is attracting the attention of materials scientists and nanoscale researchers due to their unique properties and potential applications. The many potential and difficulties related to MXene research are examined in this chapter, especially as they relate to sustainable development. We start by discussing the difficulties associated with synthesis, such as the necessity for economical manufacturing techniques, environmental effects, and scalability. The material’s versatility is then covered, emphasizing its uses in environmental cleanup, water purification, and energy storage—all of which are consistent with sustainability concepts. We also look at the existing gaps in our knowledge of MXene interactions in complex environments and the necessity of interdisciplinary approaches to get over them. Lastly, we outline future research directions that could connect the full potential of MXenes, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in academia, industry, and policy-making to foster innovations that contribute to a sustainable future. This chapter aims to provide a thorough summary of the current status of MXene research and stimulate more research into their potential to help solve global problems.

摘要
