The Song Dynasty saw the rise of Chinese civilization to yet another high point in various aspects on the basis of what had been achieved in the Tang Dynasty. Song emperors implemented the core ideology of the “ancestral instructions” to prevent systemic flaws and formulate a meticulously complete bureaucracy. They carried out a foundational national strategy of comprehensive reverence for Confucianism and civil administration and held fast to the creed of the emperor “ruling the nation alongside his scholar-officials.” Civil administration took precedence over military affairs, which had a profound, lasting influence on Chinese culture.
