The art of boiling tea in the Tang, Song, and Ming Dynasties was different but related. Tea was decocted in the Tang Dynasty, poured and whisked in the Song Dynasty, and boiled in the Ming Dynasty. After the Ming Dynasty, boiling leaf tea became the major means to make tea drinks and in the development of the boiling art, the whisking art in the Song Dynasty served as a connecting link. Eisai, a Japanese monk, learned the whisking art from a tea party at Jingshan Temple and brought it back to Japan.
