Most of the present tea culture originated from the Tang Dynasty, when tea was brought into calligraphy and painting. Bitter Bamboo Shoot, a personal letter by Huaisu, is the existing earliest Buddhist calligraphic work, which says, “The bitter bamboo and tea are especially fabulous. So bring them directly.
