Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are the leading occupational health problem in Chile and affect the upper extremities and lumbar spine. This condition is still expected in mining due to manual work in various activities. Wearable technologies, such as passive industrial exoskeletons, offer potential solutions to improve working conditions and productivity. This review examines the current state of implementing passive exoskeletons in the mining industry in Chile and worldwide, the reasons for their use, and the ergonomic aspects considered. The review, covering the literature from 2003 to 2023, included twenty-two articles. The findings reveal a lack of empirical studies in the mining sector, with articles often discussing potential benefits without evidence from fieldwork. Research from the last twenty years in various sectors highlights the positive and negative aspects necessary to verify in real working conditions. Before purchasing exoskeletons, it is crucial to evaluate their ergonomic potential to avoid failures in implementation, which underlines the importance of generating applied field evidence on their effects on the activity and health of mining operators.
