The ability of the Egyptian Network of Research Ethics Committees (ENREC) to foster consensus on the signing of the Helsinki Statement, which evaluates 10 items of the improvement of the 2024 revision of the Declaration of Helsinki (DoH) and clarifies five remaining challenges, within a short time frame reflects its commitment to ethical research practices in Egypt, ensuring the rights and protection of research participants. ENREC believes that promoting ethical medical research in Egypt requires adherence to fundamental principles that guarantee participant rights, enhance the social value of research, and ensure transparency and fairness in the dissemination of and access to the results. Therefore, the majority of ENREC members endorsed the principles of the Helsinki Statement, recognizing it as a valuable addition to the latest revision of the DoH in 2024 and believes the Statement facilitates protecting research participants and enhances their rights, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This chapter introduces the background of the research ethics framework in Egypt and the initiative of the ENREC, particularly its consensus development process on the Helsinki Statement, and emphasizes the protection of vulnerability, which is one of the significant revisions of the 2024 DoH.
