Internationalization of Moroccan Higher Education: Programme and Organizational Strategies
摘要
In response to the forces of globalisation, the higher education system is evolving to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. Economic, social, cultural, and political demands have prompted universities and higher education institutions (HEIs) worldwide to adapt their operations and interactions on a global scale. By embracing internationalisation, HEIs are positioning themselves to make meaningful contributions to global development and address the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century. HEIs involve deliberate efforts to engage with the global community, promote cross-border collaboration, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding of the implications at personal, institutional, and national levels. As the internationalisation of higher education (IHE) has garnered significant attention globally, Morocco has also implemented strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the internationalisation of its higher education sector. The purpose of this chapter is to construct a theoretical framework outlining internationalisation strategies tailored to Moroccan HEIs. By conducting a thorough review of published literature, including scholarly articles, reports, and policy documents, this chapter provides evidence-based insights into the internationalisation landscape in Morocco and thus, key principles, best practices, and recommendations are synthesised to guide the development and implementation of internationalisation program and organisational strategies in Moroccan HEIs. The significance of this chapter is that it takes a holistic perspective, considering various dimensions, such as at-home and cross-border programs, as well as global engagement initiatives.
