A Qualitative Study to Explore the Sleep Ecology of Infants and Their Mothers in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Odisha

The objective of the manuscript is to explore the sleep ecology of infants (0–3 months) and their mothers. This was a qualitative study that semi-structured interviews with mothers and infants in the state of Odisha, where the sample size consisted of 15 participants. The material was analyzed with the help of thematic analysis. Interviews were audio recorded, transcribed, translated, and coded for thematic analysis to find themes. After interpreting the data, four main themes were derived, and fifteen subthemes were captured from the data like sleep practice, sleep environment, health and well-being, including nutritional aspects. This qualitative study mainly found both promoting and disturbing factors in infants’ sleep. This challenge strongly affected both mothers and infants as well.
