Nowadays, with the rising human population, the growth of the vehicle market has also increased drastically. So, to cope with and manage this huge boom we need smart transportation and detection mechanisms, and the Vehicle Number Plate Identification system is one among them. With the advancements in technology and in the field of computer vision and deep learning, this has become a hot topic of discussion among many scholars. In India, vehicle number plates are of non-identical shapes and sizes and also of distinct colors. So, it is one tedious task to extract the number plate from the vehicle. In this model, we used transfer learning from YOLO v5 object detection. We did background research about previous research related to this project and found many new techniques which could be implemented in this project. YOLO v5 object detection is the most accurate model to be included for object detection. Then we linked this project with a user-friendly application for real-world use.
