Ageing, Aged, and New Media

The advancement of the internet provides umpteen possibilities for connectivity, well-being, and social support. However, turning to new media depends on the personality factors or not by the elderly are required to be explored. In this context, this chapter will explore how elderly people use the new media and the required motivation to adapt to new media to get a clearer picture of the entire dynamics. Having access to new media is one thing but learning to use it is different altogether, this chapter delves deeper through field data to find out what motivates an elderly person to use new media and how has been the learning process for them. In other words, usage of new media is voluntary, and social networking sites are mostly socialization and need-oriented rather than task-oriented, hence, it is important to find the motivation for the use of social networking sites by the aged population and the possible benefits they derive out of it.
