Life cycle assessment (LCA) can be utilized to assess the environmental, social, and economic impacts and energy sustainability of a certain product or process. This chapter elaborates the current knowledge on LCA of nanomaterials and nano-enabled products. It is important to perform LCAs for identifying the product life cycle stages and operations with significant impacts on the environment and thereby find solutions to mitigate those impacts. The objective of this chapter is to familiarize the reader with the LCA methodology in the context of nanomaterials. The chapter includes a brief introduction to the LCA methodology followed by highlights from the recent peer-reviewed LCA studies on nanomaterials. Finally, it discusses the challenges of conducting LCAs for nanomaterials and future work to be continued.
